Metal Embossing...

Metal Embossing is the art of creating an artwork on a metal sheet. You get an embossing metal sheet in any art shop. The sheet is not very thick, but it is thicker than an aluminium foil. It should be thick enough that it doesn’t make holes in it when you jab it with a blunt pointed object.

Materials Required:

  • Metal embossing aluminium sheet
  • Embossing Tools
  • Ball pointed pen
  • Trace of the design
  • Blanket or cushion
  • Golden anti rust liquid / anti-rust paint
  • Cotton
  • Glue and Brush
  • Kerosene
  • Tar

Lets Start...

  1. You’ll also need a blunt pointed object, such as a star shaped screwdriver, or an old ball pen (with no ink in it). This is used to create punches on the sheet to give an outline of the picture on it, without creating any holes in the sheet.
  2. Stick the trace of the design to the four corners of the aluminium sheet. Applying force draw  over the trace so that the impression of the design comes out on the metal  sheet prominently. Put dots around the design with the ball pen using force. This dots around the embossed figure will make the art look more attractive.
  3. Applying golden anti rust on the background Keep a blanket or cushion on the table and place the reverse side of the picture on it and emboss the picture by pressing hard  with the embossing tool. When it is turned the on the right side, figures will be slightly projecting (embossed). After embossing pour tar in the other side and let it dry. This is done so that the image stays embossed.  Now paint the outlines of the pictures with black colour. Colour the background of the picture with golden anti rust. Take some cotton and keep it inside a piece of cotton cloth and tie it.  This can be used to dip the golden rust and applied on the background thickly so that the background will have a dark appearance. To give lighter shade, mix little kerosene to the golden anti rust and apply it on the back ground as shown in the final picture.

Kalamkari Painting...

Kalamkari Painting is a type of Indian folk textile art that involves free hand drawing and painting or printing on cloth, mostly cotton. The word is derived from the Persian words kalam (pen) and kari (craftmanship), meaning drawing with a pen.The craft made at Pedana in Krishna district, Andhra Pradesh.

Techniques of Kalamkari Painting:

The fabric used to paint is treated before, during and after painting or printing. It is also washed and dried as many times. The natural dyes used are usually in the colours of red (from Indian madder root), yellow (from mango bark and pomegranate seed), black (from myrobalan fruit), blue (from indigo flowers) and green (by painting yellow on blue). Here are the processes or stages in Kalamkari painting:

  • Fabric is bleached using cow or goat dung solution and sun dried for some days.
  • It is then treated with a solution made with the myrobalan fruits (usage of ripe fruits in Masulipatnam and raw fruits in Srikalahasti).
  • To prevent the colour from mixing with other colours, milk is added in the solution.
  • Outlines are made with iron acetate solution, using wooden pen in Srikalahasti and blocks in Masulipatnam.
  • Alum is used as a mordant to separate areas for painting with different colours. Flowing water washes the mordant away after every step.
  • Colours are dyed in different ways to make the dye stay on the fabric. Fabric is boiled in red, immersed in blue and hand painted in yellow.
  • To separate colours from each other the hiding portion is covered with wax.
  • Artisans colour portions for yellow and green in the end. Green is basically produced by painting yellow dye over blue.
  • The final stage of Kalamkari painting involves washing and drying.

  4. Now the canvas is ready for Tajore painting. If you want a glassy look you can add some portion of Arabic gum with the layering gum (step 2) itself.

Trace the design:

  • Now trace the design using yellow carbon paper on the canvas. Do not trace the image in detail. For example while tracing the ornaments just trace the outlines only. Not in details of the shapes. The trace is for only the judgment of the area of the decorative areas and shapes of the figure. Care should be taken at this stage to provide a margin recess on all the four sides of the board to accommodate the frame, once the painting is completed

Sculptural Stage:
  1. By using round/flat brush, apply a smooth layer of embossing gum in the decorative areas.
  2. The ratio of embossing layer is Ratio – Arabic Gum: Chalk powder: Fevicol - 1:2:1
  3. Leave the Canvas with Emboss effort to get for more than a day.
  4. If you want more embossment for certain area repeat the above process.

  6. After the exact confirmation of the location for Stones & pearls, Mix Few drops of Fevicol with some water. Stick the stones starting with bigger stones first.
  7. Leave it to get fix for a day.

Decorating Stage:

  1. To get a smooth effect on the glittering area of the Tanjore art. You need to apply one more layer of embossing gum over the stones/pearls.
  2. Wait for one hour. Now pick a bowl of water & cotton. Dip a piece of cotton in the water, and squeeze it to remove extra water.
  3. Now with the wet cotton, gently rub circular manner on the embossed area.

Improvise Stage:

  1. Mark the design with the help of Ball-point pen over embossed area.
  2. In a cone fill a mixture which contains Arabic Gum: Chalk powder: Fevicol in ratio of - 2:2:1/2 carefully do cone work in filling area (like side corner / pillar) with good traditional design. Also give boundaries to the stones and pearls with the help of the cone. And let it dry.
  3. Now cut a gold foil sheet from the Gold foil booklet. Place the gold foil sheet over the design and mark an edge impression with your thumb for approximate shape.
  4. Cut the require shape of gold foil by leaving 3 to 4 mm extra on all the sizes of the require shape.
  5. Apply glue (Fevicol with water mixture) to the back side of the gold foil & place over design area.
  6. Remove gold foil pasted over stones. For this Groove the shape with Safety-pin gently. Just apply wet brush in the center of stone.
  7. Use safety-pin to remove the soften wet gold foil. You can use Johnson buds instead of brush. Shape of the stone can be adjust using safety-pin itself Painting
  8. Now paint the figures and background carefully with poster colours . The painting is normally done using white colour for the key figure and slightly shading it with blue or the normal body colour. The depiction is normally static and the painting does not reflect any action or movement. The usage of the background colours is mostly striking - it is a dark hue of red, blue or green. The paintings are characterized by pillars and curtains in the side, and some smaller compartmentalization at the bottom or top to accommodate small figures

Pottery Painting...

Materials Required:
  • Clay Pot
  • Paint brushes
  • Spray Sealer
  • Patio Paint

Instructions

  • Wipe the outside of the clay pot with a paper towel prior to spraying it with sealer. If the pot is dirty, you will need to use a damp cloth to wipe the grime away. Let it dry thoroughly before spraying it with the sealer.
  • Spray the entire outside of the pot with a coat of sealer in a well ventilated area. Always spray in a direction pointing away from you. Keep the spray mist-like so there won't be runs in it when it has dried. Let the sealer dry completely.
  • Mix the paint well and pour the it onto a palette. Use a wide brush to apply the basecoat color to the pot. Let it dry and apply another coat for good coverage. Sometimes a thrid coat is necessary if using a light color. The basic pot color should not show through the paint. Make sure you allow the coats to dry before proceeding.
  • Finish the pot by spraying it again with sealer once it has dried completely. The pot will be weather resistant and a wonderful addition to your home.

Terrace Waterproof Coat: Acrylic Based Flexible Coating. Aesthetic Finish.

Tips:
  • Try stencils to decorate your pots.
  • Sparkle spray paint can be applied to the pot after painting it.
  • To get fine or thin lines, a small brush is best.
  • You Can add stripes to the pot. These can be achieved by applying tape to the pot. Paint over the tape using the same base color. When that is dry, apply the color of your choice over that. This way the second color won't seep underneath the tape. With the round tip of the paint brush, add dots of color to the stripes or pattern design you have chosen.

Poster Colour Painting...

Poster colour creates a vibrant painting, which is another name for tempera paint.

Poster paint is a good option for school art projects because it is affordable, and is simple to clean up since it is a water based. Beginning painters can benefit from using poster paints, which they can either use straight from the bottle or dilute to create a wash

When painting,it is preferable to sketch out the design of the painting with the brush, but drawing an outline in pencil will make it easier for the novice to concentrate on the actual painting.

In the beginning use less water so you don't get messy.Wet the paper initially before painting.

Canvas painting...

Four Seasons...

During the Course of the Painting:

  • One of the first things to remember as a painter is to avoid the use of pencil on your canvas. It is difficult to erase out pencil marks later without affecting the quality of the paint and somehow, always tends to show through.
  • First paint the background  and then add the various details of the painting as this ensures that you do not smudge the details with the colour of the background.

Once you have finished the painting:

  • One of the foremost things to keep in mind after you have finished the painting is to ensure that you allow it dry well. Whatever the medium that you have used in order to make the painting, it needs to be allowed to dry well. Try to cover the painting, so that dust does not gather on the painting.
  • Once the painting is dry, you should varnish it in order to preserve it. This will also give your painting a glossy look

Long stitch embroidery...

Long Stitches are worked vertically. They are a great stitch for working large pieces of canvas.  It is an excellent stitch for creating wrinkles in a face or on clothing. Where one long stitch ends and another begins, a "line" is formed that can create the illusion of the wrinkle.
